Role Overview:

The Principal/Senior/Engineer has the responsibility to provide design & engineering capability to engineering activities/projects assigned to the HVS design engineering team to lead the design of our products at system level and to ensure smooth and timely integration into the complete vehicle programme. A complete focus on BOM cost and manufacturability/assembly is paramount. The position is accountable for the correct performance of the system / sub-system whilst meeting product specification & cost targets.

This role will require experience in steel fabricated structures

Key Responsibilities:

•Support the generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements, relevant standards and other constraints

•Progress the conceptual development for new product

•Participate in developing and maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures

•Supporting the identification of business opportunities

•Problem solving on existing products and product improvement

•Being responsible for evaluating technical issues in order to develop proposals for investigations and/or solutions

•Delivering assigned projects, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan, cost and budget

•Preparing and delivering progress reports against project plans

•Working alongside the customer on product development ensuring delivery of solutions to meet the customer’s requirements

•Keeping up to date in relevant technical areas, developing skills and capabilities, and giving support to others as required

•Actively participate in business unit improvement activities

Required Deliverables:

•Prepare timelines to deliver proposals and designs for relevant subject matter / system

•To supervise and review designs and concepts

•To supervise and review virtual analysis of designs and concepts (FEA CFD)

•Develop DVP requirements with the relevant teams

•Liaising with vendors in determining design specification requirements

•Confirmation of designs align with 3rd party vendor requirements

•Liaising with vendors in determining design specifications

•Approve and deliver data release / drawing release

•To interface with key customer representatives

•To manage ongoing development/improvement of product designs & specifications

•Working closely with manufacturing department to ensure manufacturability / assembly

•Designing and developing design processes for enhancements, product changes & new products are released in a timely and cost effective manner.

Person Requirements:

•HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Is essential, a master’s degree would be desirable.

•Chartered Engineer status or Membership of a professional organisation would be desirable

•Relevant experience in an automotive or similar environment

•Good working knowledge of machine tools and manufacturing practice, with expertise in one or more manufacturing disciplines

•Pro-active and able to take direction and implement strategy for continuous improvement/problem solving

•Experience with implementing/facilitating continuous process improvements (Lean manufacturing)

•Proven track record of reducing costs through a continuous improvement process.

•Strong computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office, Project Manager, CATIA, CREO

•Self-motivated, with the ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects.

•Hands-on, team-oriented individual possessing strong leadership, problem-solving and analytical skills.
