This is a really nice opportunity for a Mechanical or Materials Engineer who has an interest in composites to join a growing design and manufacturing company in the southern Hampshire area. This company recently received major investment and have secured one of their biggest projects to date.

In this role you’ll be responsible for performing analysis of composite products and components, participating in the development of numerical or analytical models to predict structural performance. In addition to this you specify small-scale (coupon) tests to characterise the composite material level performance and analyse the resulting test data for use as input to full-scale structural models. This will also include report writing, so a good level of English is required.

You’ll be working with a variety of engineering managers, project managers, business development managers and test engineers so you should have a collaborative approach to work and be happy to work onsite for the majority of the time.

Knowledge & Experience

•Batchelor’s or Ph.D. in relevant engineering discipline.

•Able to demonstrate industry experience relevant to the position

•Knowledge of the design, analysis and test of composites structures

•Knowledge of structural analysis techniques (FEA), familiarity with SolidWorks or other CAD package

•Proven experience of running test and qualification programmes

•Subsea engineering experience is desirable as is data processing or programming experience in Excel, Python or similar software packages/languages

•Energy and enthusiasm for tackling challenging engineering problems, team player, good communication skills.

This position would suit an Engineer who is passionate about composite technology and has strong analysis skills. It would suit someone who is looking to broaden their experience and enjoys the challenge of extending the capabilities of what is possible with this material. This is not a pure research position, but will also involve design, development and analysis.

The manager is ideally looking for someone with a technical background in either damage or non-linear modelling of composites and/or long-term (e.g. fatigue or stress rupture) modelling.
