Job Summary

Development, maintenance and improvement of equipment and processes associated with manufacturing in Portsmouth. Support new product introductions into manufacturing processes and investments in equipment and processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Development and maintenance of production process documentation and safe working practices

• Process/product issue resolution to maintain production output

• Diagnostics - root cause analysis & corrective action plan deployment for test/yield issues

• Identifying & implementing process improvements including jigs, fixtures & tooling

• Process/product change implementation management

• Introduction of new products into production with associated equipment, tooling, processes and documentation

• Development, validation (PFMEA) and introduction of new production/test processes

• Investigating new technologies

• Working with outside support companies to support equipment & processes

• Budgeting, specification and installation of new equipment

• Maintenance of production equipment and systems

• Process layout, timings, capacity and materials flow considerations

• Designing quality into the process and ensuring error-proofing implemented wherever possible

• Introduction of “lean manufacturing” methodologies and “cost reduction” initiatives

• Ensuring EHS provisions are in place for equipment and processes, including risk assessments

• Coordination of prototype, pilot and pre-production builds

• Training of production operatives as required

• Deputise for team leaders and support other projects as required

Key Deliverables

• Meeting project task and milestone deadlines (New Products, Engineering Change, Productivity etc)

• Process & equipment availability to meet manufacturing needs

• Documentation & ERP accuracy to allow manufacturing to build to design intent

• Maintaining and gaining required certification to standards (AS9100 etc)

Key Metrics

• Projects – on-time, delivered scope, on budget

• Health & Safety – Accidents, Near Misses, Improvement Actions

• Quality – Yield, Quality Escapes, Aging NCRs, Scrap

• Delivery – OTD, Past Due, Fulfilment to customer request

• Productivity – Headcount, Sales/Head, GM/Head, Productivity projects, Product cost down, OEE

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Experience of equipment and processes relevant to Hi-Rel product manufacture

• Lean operational implementations experience

• Project management of improvement & capital projects

• Aerospace/defence experience preferred

• Electronics manufacturing experience a significant advantage

• Strong influencer and cross functional relationship builder

• Confident presenter to customers and internal stakeholders

• High level of organisation and planning skills

Qualifications

• HND (NQV Level 4) in Engineering on above (or equivalent industrial experience)

Hours are Monday to Thursday 07.45am – 4.45pm & Friday 07.45am – 12.30pm.
