Junior Electrical Design Engineer

​Our Nanotechnology client are currently seeking a Junior Electrical Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis in Oxford.

This role exists to support the design and development of new plasma deposition systems and upgrades to existing machines within the Engineering group, which is made up of a variety of multi-functional roles. The role is required to help ensure that these machines are developed to the highest standard and to provide a seamless transition to customer sites.

To be successful in this role a proactive approach is required to stay up to date with the latest Switchgear, Control gear, actuation & sensor technology, PLC, and related control system technology combined with the ability to learn fast and work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.

Main Responsibilities;

• Maintain a safe and professional standard in the working environment, tools used, and equipment designed.

• Ability to design appropriate low voltage electrical solutions to meet defined project requirements at a junior level in a collaborative environment, supervised and mentored appropriately by the extended Research Development and Engineering group.

• Ability to fault find and troubleshoot problems efficiently on both new projects and existing systems, providing remote support for field service engineers when required.

• Ensure all system schematics, Bill of Materials and associated documentation are accurately controlled.

• Contribute to Risk Assessments and FMEA activities.

• Provide accurate estimates of personal time required to complete work within tight project timelines.

• Be proactively involved in all stages of product development from initial concept through to final validation after build.

• Ensure all relevant standards are used in the creation and support of all equipment.

• Additional Responsibilities

• Assist the Research & Development, Service & Support and Manufacturing teams as and when required (time permitting).

• Occasional travelling may be required for this post.

Key skills and experience;

• Relevant technical qualification e.g. bachelor’s degree in electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or similar, related apprenticeship/internship or NVQ level 3.

• Previous electrical design experience in a business environment.

• Experience with industrial machinery within a technical environment.

• Excellent problem-solving skills.

• Technical documentation creation.

• Must be able to work on their own initiative and demonstrate organisational, time management and prioritisation skills between multiple projects.

Desirable;

• Experience in full lifecycle machine design and development.

• Strong Electrical CAD ability, ideally Solidworks Electrical.

• Knowledge of PLC/PAC software development.

• Knowledge of vacuum pump systems.

• Experience in the use of test/diagnostics equipment.

• Contributing to Risk Assessments and FMEAs.

• Experience of CE/UL standards would be advantageous Including; BS EN60204 Electrical Machine Safety, BS EN12100 Machine Safety, BS EN ISO13849 Risk Assessment, UL508A Safety Related Control System Parts.
