Our high technology client in Southampton is seeking a Process Engineer with ideally experience of NPI fibre fabrication process development. Or alternatively strong process engineering experience in a high technology R&D to Production environment, developing new processes.
Job Purpose:
Working closely with Laser R&D, Fibre Technology and Manufacturing teams the Fibre Process Engineer is expected to deliver increased fibre manufacturing efficiency, enhanced fibre quality and support a rapidly expanding fibre product range. The Fibre Process Engineer is required to develop, monitor and control state-of the-art specialty fibre fabrication processes and support the implementation of innovative fibre designs in the context of a high end, high volume fibre laser manufacturing environment. 
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Duties & Responsibilities:
Development of new and improved specialty fibre fabrication processes and product characterisation methods
Monitoring and controlling fibre draw and preform fabrication manufacturing processes
Implementation of new specialty fibre product designs
Participation in, and contribution to, fibre laser technology and NPI projects as fibre technology representative
Improvement of fibre manufacturing yield, product capability and reduction in cost
Diagnosing machine and process faults and assisting with their resolution
Ensuring manufacturing equipment is always fit for use through participation with TPM and calibration activities
Provision of training to manufacturing staff
Reporting and communicating on key projects to all levels within the organization including senior management
Required Experience:
Industrial experience of high technology manufacturing incorporating yield improvement, process & product development and cost reduction
Practical experience of optical fibre manufacturing processes
Demonstrated track record of innovative process improvement
Strong I.T. skills, data handling and presentation skills
Experience of fibre draw process engineering
Experience of fibre preform MCVD process engineering
Experience of Chelate deposition processes
Experience of fibre characterization methods
Qualified /experienced in advanced manufacturing tools and techniques eg 6 Sigma, TPM etc
Skilled in the use of SQL for database interrogation
Expertise in Excel, Python, Matlab, Visual Basic or other platforms for developing automated data-handling and analysis operations
2-5 years experience in manufacturing industry in an engineering role
Degree or equivalent qualification; Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or closely related discipline
