Job Description

 
I am currently looking to recruit a Mechanical Technician for our client; a fusion research company located in Oxford. 
 
This role sits in their specialist technical support team, and you will be part of the experimental team supporting hypervelocity launch experiments, working within world class facilities. You will be assisting with the mechanical refurbishment of equipment between experiments and specialist training will be provided for you.
 
We believe this is an exciting and varied role as you will interact with all experiments using a broad range of advanced devices in a fast-paced environment. 
 
Responsibilities will include: 
 
• General support of scientific experiments 
• Experimental chamber refurbishment
 
Key skills; 
 
Essential; 
 
Good understanding of hand tools in a mechanical engineering setting
Good team working 
Ability to identify, report and replace worn parts and seals during visual inspection 
Ability to communicate and liaise with the experimental team 
Flexibility and good attitude to work 
 
Desirable; 
 
Knowledge of safe working practices; specialist training will be provided 
Good background in engineering 
Experience working with vacuum systems 
Experience of working in a technical environment 
A logical and analytical approach to problem solving 
Being highly motivated, confident and organised with keen attention to detail 
Ability to absorb technical information quickly and being able to perform occasional tasks whilst under time pressure
