Heat Pump Applications Engineer
Location: South West London | Contract: Permanent | Travel: UK & International
£60-80k
Help decarbonise industry with next-generation heat pump technology.
We’re looking for an experienced Heat Pump Applications Engineer to join an ambitious early-stage cleantech company developing disruptive high-temperature heat pump technology for industrial applications.
Futraheat has developed patented turbo-compressor technology designed to deliver lower-speed, oil-free operation with reduced manufacturing, operating and maintenance costs. Following a successful industrial pilot in 2025 and recent Series A investment, the business is now scaling and developing the next generation of products.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in taking innovative technology into real-world industrial applications.
What you’ll do
-
Act as the subject matter expert for industrial high-temperature heat pump applications.
-
Assess industrial applications from both technical and commercial perspectives.
-
Lead the specification, analysis, modelling and systems design of high-temperature heat pump solutions.
-
Work directly with industrial partners and customers to understand processes, define requirements and develop practical solutions.
-
Translate application requirements into clear specifications and control requirements for the wider engineering team.
-
Apply your knowledge of industrial processes, refrigeration, HVAC, heat pumps and process engineering to solve complex challenges.
-
Support the commissioning, testing and deployment of new products at industrial sites.
-
Produce clear engineering documentation, technical reports and presentations.
-
Consider relevant regulatory, safety and compliance requirements.
-
Work collaboratively across the wider engineering team as the technology develops into mature products.
What we’re looking for
You’ll be an experienced engineer who combines strong technical knowledge with the ability to understand customer applications and communicate complex engineering requirements clearly.
Essential:
-
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Process, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
-
5+ years’ relevant engineering experience in heat pumps, refrigeration, HVAC, industrial processes or a related field.
-
Strong systems engineering, modelling and analytical capability.
-
Experience working with customers or industrial partners.
-
Excellent communication and technical report-writing skills.
-
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly, including internationally.
Desirable:
-
Strong knowledge of industrial steam generation, distribution and use.
-
Experience with compressors, turbomachinery and/or electric motor technology.
-
Knowledge of relevant industrial regulatory and compliance requirements.
-
Experience across a range of industrial processes.
-
Familiarity with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, MATLAB or LabVIEW.
-
Working towards or holding Chartered Engineer status.
Why join?
You’ll join at a pivotal stage of the company’s growth, working on technology with the potential to make a genuine impact on industrial CO₂ emissions.
This is a broad, hands-on role where you’ll have real influence over how the technology is applied, working directly with industrial customers and seeing projects progress from application assessment through to commissioning and operation.
You’ll also have significant opportunities for technical, professional and personal development, including support towards Chartership.
If you’re passionate about engineering, industrial decarbonisation and turning innovative technology into practical solutions, we’d like to hear from you.
