Job Purpose:

Reporting to the Operations Test Team Manager your responsibilities will be to design, own and manage the electronic and power control hardware and software of bespoke ATE solutions.  These solutions test our product lasers and components.  Mainly housed in 19” racks, the ATE equipment controls and switches 3-phase mains and PSUs up to a few hundred amps to the product, interfaces and controls the product, as well as interfacing to National Instruments digital IO, analogue and communication interfaces.

Safety critical design and interlocking is a large part of the design of light safe solutions up to many kW of optical power.  These solutions use gantries to move and control thermal cameras and beam delivery optics as part of the automated process.

You must be able to interpret product specifications to design and create automated solutions to meet the needs of production capacity.  You will be collaborating alongside Mechanical and Software engineers in order to deliver solutions, whilst also collaborating with the R&D department.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Design of power control systems and electronic hardware of bespoke ATE systems
  • Design of Software to automate the bespoke ATE systems
  • Own and manage the current design of test equipment, identification and execution of improvement projects.
  • Fault finding and component level repair from time to time
  • Supporting the implementation of new test solutions for NPI (New Product Introductions) liaising between Manufacturing, Engineering and R&D.
  • Report to management on a regular basis the current status of project tasks and identify any risks and mitigation relating to identified risks.

Required Experience:

Essential:

  • Hands on experience designing, producing and debugging digital/analogue electronic hardware and power control systems from system to component level
  • Programming experience of test software using LabVIEW, VB.net and VB6
  • Ability to prototype/test/debug hardware designs
  • In depth experience of development/fault finding using equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analysers, Logic analysers, Function Generators etc
  • Creation of test requirements/specifications and test related documentation
  • Creation of risk assessments
  • Defining test requirements from system level down to PCBA/Component level
  • Ideally 3-5 years of experience in a low to mid volume technology/manufacturing environment

Advantageous:

  • Use of PCB CAD package to turn prototype designs into a PCB solution
  • Experience of high-power optical systems and optical theory knowledge
  • Experience of safety critical systems
  • Experience interfacing to I2C, RS232 and CANBUS
  • Knowledge of National Instruments to develop automated solutions
  • Ability to create mechanical enclosures to house electronics/switches/connectors etc in 19” racking
  • Experience in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions.
  • Experience using JIRA/Confluence
