6 Month Fixed-Term Contract | Norfolk | £40,000 + Benefits

We are currently supporting a leading engineering and manufacturing business in Norfolk with the recruitment of a Stores Manager on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with potential for extension.

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant management of the stores operation, including inventory control, goods-in, warehousing and kitting.

Working closely with Production Planning, Procurement and Manufacturing teams, you will ensure materials are available when required, stock accuracy is maintained and the stores function continues to support production effectively.

The Role

As Stores Manager, you will lead the stores team and take ownership of day-to-day materials management, ensuring that materials are received, stored, controlled and issued efficiently and in line with company procedures and quality requirements.

You will also play an important role in improving inventory accuracy, material flow and warehouse efficiency within a lean manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the stores team, providing day-to-day direction, coaching and development
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and high levels of stock integrity
  • Lead cycle counting and annual stocktake activities
  • Investigate stock discrepancies and implement corrective actions
  • Manage raw materials, sub-assemblies, consumables, WIP and finished goods
  • Ensure materials are released and kitted to production on time
  • Manage Kanban, point-of-use and line-side stock replenishment
  • Work closely with Planning and Procurement to manage inventory levels and minimise excess and obsolete stock
  • Oversee goods-in activities, ensuring deliveries are checked against purchase orders and delivery documentation
  • Escalate material shortages and inventory issues that could impact production
  • Maintain full material traceability
  • Ensure the stores and warehouse environment remains safe, organised and efficient
  • Maintain 5S standards and support quality, HSE and security requirements
  • Support audits and corrective action activities
  • Identify opportunities to improve material flow, inventory accuracy and warehouse efficiency
  • Develop and monitor stores KPIs and drive continuous improvement using Lean principles

About You

We are looking for an experienced Stores, Warehouse or Materials Manager with experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience managing a stores, warehouse or materials function
  • Strong inventory management and stock control experience
  • Experience leading and developing a team
  • Good understanding of goods-in, kitting and material flow
  • Experience working closely with Production Planning, Procurement and Manufacturing
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems
  • A good understanding of Lean manufacturing and 5S principles
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive approach to identifying and resolving material and inventory issues
  • Good attention to detail, particularly around stock accuracy and traceability
