Electro-mechanical Engineer
Location - Surbiton, South West London, and some travel may be required for site work.
About Futraheat
We are an early-stage, cleantech company formed to commercialise our novel, patented compressor technology. Our vision is to make a meaningful dent in global CO2 emissions by pioneering the electrification of industry with disruptive heat pump products.
Our core technology is a turbo-compressor – simplified. It operates at greatly reduced speeds without oil, yielding lower manufacturing, operating and maintenance costs. We have developed a full-scale industrial heat pump pre-production product that was pilot tested at an industrial site throughout 2025. Recently Series A investment has been secured to scale the business and deliver further high temperature heat pump products to industrial end users.
About the Position
We are looking for a full-time Electro-mechanical Engineer with a mix of electrical, mechanical and systems engineering experience to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate who enjoys a varied role covering electrical and mechanical design, control integration and hands-on assembly work in product development with some field testing. Knowledge of motors and compressors is desirable, but above all a willingness to learn and contribute to a collaborative and innovative environment is key.
As an early-stage company our roles are broad, will evolve as we progress from core technology to mature product, and will suit those who are flexible, creative and pro-active.
Some of the capabilities and duties required include:
• Electronic systems design from the component level including defining specifications, instrumentation and parts selection, engineering analysis, calculation and simulation
• Competent CAD skills to produce mechanical/electrical designs and engineering drawings
• Ability to produce and interpret P&IDs, schematics and circuit diagrams
• Mechanical and electrical (inc. wiring) assembly, commissioning and testing of products
• Ability to define control strategies and/or simulate control systems using MATLAB Simulink/Simscape or similar is desirable
• Experience with industrial PLCs and knowledge of the Internet of Things (IoT) is desirable
• Commissioning and testing of motors, compressors and heat pumps
• Troubleshooting skills and mindset to process testing data looking for system improvements
• Engineering documentation and report writing
• Knowledge of and/or qualification in relevant industrial electrical standards is desirable
• Installation and testing of new products at industrial sites requiring periods of off-site working
Systems we use include SolidWorks, AutoCAD, ANSYS, MATLAB and LabVIEW.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical, Mechanical or Systems engineering or a closely related discipline. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience. We will support technical, professional and personal development on the job and externally, as well as those engineers seeking/maintaining Chartership.
