About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Embedded Systems Hardware Engineer to join an innovative engineering team developing next-generation microturbine engine technology for advanced jet propulsion applications.
The team is leveraging additive manufacturing and cutting-edge materials to push beyond current performance limits, creating highly optimised engine designs and bespoke control systems for a range of customer platforms.
This role focuses on the design, development, and testing of production-ready embedded controller hardware. You’ll work closely with controls, mechanical, and systems engineers to refine existing development systems into reliable, scalable solutions suitable for demanding real-world applications.
You’ll be part of a fast-paced and collaborative engineering environment with significant scope to influence both product development and technical direction.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop embedded hardware for production engine controllers, including component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout
• Rapidly implement hardware solutions for new engine ancillaries and subsystems
• Develop adaptable controller hardware platforms suitable for engines across multiple thrust classes
• Support testing and validation activities to ensure reliability and robustness in challenging operating environments
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve complex technical challenges
• Contribute to agile product development within a fast-moving engineering environment
Essential Skills & Experience
• Strong background in embedded systems hardware design
• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (2:1 or above) or equivalent industry experience
• Excellent understanding of PCB design principles and best practices, from schematics through to layout
• Exposure to both hardware and firmware development projects
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Organised, self-motivated, and capable of independently managing projects
• A proactive problem solver with a desire to learn and innovate
Desirable Experience
Experience with any of the following would be advantageous:
• STM32-based platforms
• PCB design for highly stressed or harsh environments
• Electric motor controller design
• CAN bus implementations
• EMI/EMC-conscious design techniques
• C or C++ programming
• Basic understanding of turbomachinery and engine control systems
• Experience working within fast-paced, outcome-focused engineering teams
