Strategic Supply Chain Development Manager

Our heavy mechanical manufacturing client has a new role for a Strategic Supply Chain Development Manager. This role is focusing on new strategy / vision of the supply chain going forwards. Selecting new suppliers, planning for bottle necks and supply chain issues and looking at how to resolve these. The role would suit someone from an Engineering background with good mechanical engineering understanding with strong supply chain management experience. The role will lead a team of approx 5 people.
 
Job Purpose:
To formulate strategies related to and co-ordinate the management and development of the Supply Chain for engine related components.
 
Key Tasks & Responsibilities
o General
o Working with the General Manager Supply Chain & Logistics, develop a detailed action plan that delivers the Supply Chain Strategic Vision
o Responsible for leading the Strategic Supply Chain Team
o Supplier Selection and Evaluation
o Co-ordinate supplier evaluation and selection through a robust, effective qualification process
o Assess new and existing suppliers’ ability to meet product, capability, cost, quality, capacity and order fulfillment requirements and the requirements of ISO9001:2015 and other applicable customer and internal systems and standards 
o Ensure strategic sourcing decisions are aligned to supplier capability and capacity
o Supplier Performance and Management
o Work with suppliers to develop and continuously improve their processes, capabilities and performance to reliably and repeatedly deliver high quality products on time
o Co-ordinate the Supplier Development and Strategic Procurement Teams to prioritise supplier development needs and actions
o Track supplier performance via suitable KPI’s to develop the suppliers ability to consistently meet or exceed defined expectations
o Ensure a continuous improvement methodology is utilized within the supply base to improve process efficiency, cost, delivery, quality
o Ensure an effective review and reporting structure in place to drive supplier performance and development
o Supplier Surveillance and Audit
o Ensure a robust annual supplier audit programme is in place in line with business needs and group methodologies
o Ensure the completion of supplier validation audits in line with business needs and group methodologies
o Implement and continually improve a Supplier Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process
o Procurement
o Lead the Strategic Purchasing team to proactively define, formulate, develop and implement a competitive vision, strategy and policies in order to deliver against financial and other group goals, objectives and KPI’s
o Overall responsibility for the control, management, development and performance of the Strategic Procurement function
o Overall responsibility for delivering component / supply chain cost savings for a given range of components.
o Overall responsibility to ensure robust supply contracts are in place for a given range of products with conditions beneficial to the organisation.
o Supplier Relationship Management
o Facilitate the development of suitable relationships and partnerships with all suppliers to maximize supplier performance and  ensure that supplier development activity is effective and in line with the business requirements
o Supplier Capability, Capacity
o Co-ordinate work with colleagues and suppliers to analyse supplier capabilities and capacity against future programme needs 
o Work with cross-functional teams to develop suppliers to ensure they are capable of controlling critical processes within defined control plans
o Quality Performance
o Drive process and product quality improvements utilizing 
o lean methodologies
o systematic problem solving using quality tools such as RCA, 8D, SPC, FMEA,
o supplier scorecards and KPI’s
o Continuous Improvement
o Processes and procedures
o Ensure supply chain adhere to all processes and procedures (Sample, Concession etc.)
o Ensure suppliers evaluate and continuously improve their internal processes and procedures to maximise performance and minimise cost.
o Engineering 
o Assist with new product launch and engineering change by working with Engineering to ensure the appropriate processes are followed (ex. DA, Clearing round, Sample) and that suppliers are policed and supported during these processes 
o Provide technical expertise and knowledge during the sourcing and development of all suppliers 
o Work with the Engineering team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements
o Specify and develop product acceptance / test requirements / procedures and ensure suppliers are compliant with requirements.
 
Experience & Skills
Essential  
o Extensive experience of Supply Chain Management and Development within an engineering, automotive or aerospace environment.
o Familiar with the development and implementation of Supply Chain KPI’s using them to monitor and improve Supply Chain performance.
o Experience of identifying, implementing and developing new sources of supply for large engineered components. 
o Demonstrate experience of successfully achieving supply chain deliverables associated with major customer projects and contracts.
o Demonstrate a knowledge of driving process and product quality improvements within a Supply Chain
o Previously worked in an environment promoting an SRM culture with high levels of Supply Chain interaction. 
o High standard of numeric ability, able to understand costs, forecasts and budgeting.
o An understanding of engineered products and their associated processes of manufacture. 
o Preferably an engineering, technical or manufacturing background with the ability to effectively communicate with the Technical functions within the organisation and externally  within  the Supply Chain. 
o Experience of executing supply chain audit programmes in line with business requirements
o High level of computer literacy, ability to produce and deliver reporting to a high standard. 
 
Specific Knowledge
o An understanding  of  Engineered products / equipment, and applicable processes of manufacturing
 
Qualifications
o University degree Qualified – Engineering / Supply Chain discipline would be an advantage
Professional Qualification in Engineering / Supply Chain discipline.
