Job Description

Our Motorsport client are seeking a Principal Powertrain Design Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a business offering a wide scope of projects from racing cars competing in series such as the World Touring Car Championship, prototype vehicles, fully electric supercars and concept cars. The key purpose of the role is to lead and manage Powertrain (ICE or HV) Design Engineering projects ensuring that efficient, cost-effective and customer-focused projects, products and services are delivered at all times.

Key duties;

•    To plan and coordinate project design activities:
•    Through close work with the rest of the Delivery Group, Commercial and the Operational Support Department to agree and deliver on project plans and deadlines;
•    To lead Powertrain Design Engineering projects, ensuring all departmental operating practices and procedures are followed and performance criteria are met according to the design specification;
•    To approve all project drawings and Engineering Releases to ensure that the Technical Specification is met and the BOM is correct;
•    To produce accurate design specifications to make sure the customer (internal or external) and project objectives are met.
•    To design parts and assemblies fit for purpose with minimum modification or development through their lifecycle:
•    To record and document calculations, design reference data and correspondence to ensure that the design process can be reviewed at a later date
•    To produce supporting documentation, follow part manufacture and first fitment to make sure parts and assemblies are fitted to the design intent


Qualifications / Education / Training:

•    2:1 degree in Mechanical, Automotive or Motorsport Engineering        
•    At least 5-6 years’ experience in a Mechanical design role within a motorsport or high-end automotive environment    
•    HV Battery Design
•    HV System Design
•    Internal Combustion Engine Design
•    Ability to validate design through calculation
•    Good 3D modelling and technical drawing skills
•    Good materials and manufacturing process knowledge
•    Innovative approach to design
•    Clean sheet Engine or HV System design experience
•    Unigraphics NX experience
•    Teamcentre experience
