Job Description

This is a really nice opportunity for a Senior Engineer or Manager to join a growing design and manufacturing company in the Portsmouth area.  This company recently received major investment and have secured one of their biggest projects to date. They are now keen to recruit a manager to oversee the management of equipment and movement of their products across the site. It’s a busy but professional engineering and manufacturing environment.
 
As Manufacturing Engineer you’ll be involved in project managing a series of complex operations, as careful logistics and team management are required to ensure successful movement of products around the site.
We are looking for a hands-on, organised, authoritative, level headed person who has great communication skills.  Being able to weigh up all the factors, direct others and make good decisions will be second nature to you.
 
This position would suit and engineer who is a technical capable and dynamic person; comfortable being at the forefront of manufacturing. You will understand the risks involved in the processes and logistics and be able to manage the complex operations required to move specialised equipment and materials between different production areas on site from start to finish. 
 
You’ll need to command authority to lead activities and be a proactive communicator to ensure everyone involved is fully informed in advance. Being an organised project manager, planning and putting details in place before an operation, ensuring procedures and processes are identified and followed without deviation will be core behaviours.
 
Over time you’ll develop deep understanding of the company's manufacturing methods, engineering and loads including risk assessment and performance analysis. Part of your role will be to report proof and evidence of optimisation of all machinery as well as looking for areas of improvement. You’ll need to be as adept at detail and analysis as you are at planning and physically managing sensitive large-scale logistics.
 
To apply for this opportunity you should be able to demonstrate:
  • A graduate with a first class or upper second-class degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related subject)
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Confident, authoritative, accountable, methodical, logical, leadership qualities
  • Familiarity with Lifting Operations
  • Ideally a knowledge of LOLER and PUWER regulations
  • Experience of high value, low volume logistics would be ideal
  • Knowledge of Continuous improvement and Lean Manufacturing methodologies would be ideal
