Senior Firmware / Electronics Engineer
Permanent or Contract
40,000 - 50,000 per year or £35 - £45 Ltd an hour on contract
Rugby, Warwickshire
Our manufacturing client based in Rugby is looking to expand their electronics department by recruiting a permanent Senior Firmware / Electronics Engineer on a permanent basis. Whilst they seek someone on a permanent basis they can also, consider a contractor in a short term contract.
Job Purpose:
As part of the Electronics & Software engineering team, this role will lead the design and development of the firmware used in the electronic controllers, for the companies broad range of laser products. Engineering involvement will include the full product lifecycle from design and development to prototyping, verification and validation and finally transfer to manufacture.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
• Specification, design and development of firmware from concept through to production
• To include detailed firmware, software and electronics design, simulation, testing, troubleshooting and manufacturing documentation for the following:-
• ALTERA FPGAs (Cyclone series) and CPDLs (Max series)
• Development Environment Quartus II
• Development Language VHDL
• C++ for embedded design
• RTOS –Analog Devices Visual Display Kernel
• Microsoft Visual Studio
• Working in a multidisciplinary team developing fiber lasers to grow market share as a laser supplier and to introduce higher performance and lower cost products.
Required Experience:
Essential:
5 – 10 years experience at a senior design and development level with the following tools:
• ALTERA FPGA (Cyclone series) and CPDL (Max series)
• C++ for embedded design
• RTOS –Analog Devices Visual Display Kernel
• Analog Devices Visual DSP++ 5.0
• Microsoft Visual Studio (VB.NET and C++)
Preferable:
• Familiarity with Fiber Optic or Laser based products
• Knowledge of control electronics design techniques and circuits
Qualifications:
• Good Degree / Masters in Electronic Engineering
Personal Profile:
• Ability to lead work across multiple tasks methodically and efficiently and meet committed timescales
• Ability and willingness to train members of the team in embedded control and FPGA design techniques.
• Happy to lead work in a dynamic environment and adaptable to changes in priorities
• Proactive approach to supporting the needs of a development team
• Hands-on with creative approach to problem solving and the ability to translate engineering requests into working solutions
• Ability to identify and use reference material to help execute tasks
• Strong customer focus.
• Ability to travel at short notice within and external to the UK.
