Senior Engineer – Chassis Systems R&D

The Role
• Lead the research into new / advanced technologies within Chassis Systems
• Develop ideas into research projects and, where applicable, production solutions

Main Responsibilities
• Lead the charge towards reducing the carbon footprint of current and future vehicles
• Thoroughly investigate and develop solutions to improve sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint, e.g. increased use of recycled/recyclable materials, improved range, lightweighting
• Work in close partnership with Tier 1 suppliers and/or research institutions (e.g. Universities) to develop the ideas into production-viable solutions
• Focus on projects that could be production viable in the near- to mid-term
• Create proposals & budgets to support the planned research and/or implementation of the solutions
• Ensure that the technology being developed enables system & vehicle level targets to be met
• Support rig & prototype builds
• Work seamlessly across the teams (R&D, Manufacturing, Service, etc.) to ensure a collaborative approach is applied to the delivery of the project(s)
• Support the wider team on occasions if/when required

The Person
• Should have min 5yrs experience in at least one of the following Chassis Systems: Brakes (preferred), Driveline, Steering, Suspension or Tuneables (relevant transferable experience in other vehicle systems will be considered)
• Degree qualified (or equivalent) with experience of high-performance / niche vehicles or motorsport preferred
• Strong understanding of sustainability and how to reduce carbon footprints
• Able to take the smallest of ideas and develop then into research projects using colleagues’ ideas, as well as their own
• Must have a good grasp of budgets and cost control and be able to develop project plans that are applicable for our size of organisation
• Must be willing to take a hands-on approach to drive the projects forward
• A high level of advanced materials & manufacturing knowledge would be a distinct advantage
• Technical and personal credibility, working effectively with other functional teams and business functions
• Strong team player with the ability to influence and motivate others to achieve the best possible results for the product/programme
• Genuine interest in making efficient, sustainable products
