Job Description

Our client are a nationally recognised independent research, development, test and certification house within the advanced automotive and power systems engineering sectors. They support businesses and organisations to develop the next generation of low carbon technologies.
 
We are currently looking to recruit a Principal Engineer with a proven background in test & development. We are ideally looking for 8-10 years' of experience in the technical delivery of commercial tests & development of electric vehicle battery or HV drive systems.
 
Key responsibilities;
 
Lead on the technical development and deployment of commercial projects as well as assisting in the running of such programmes from a technical specialist point of view
Assist in the process of obtaining significant levels of commercial income
Actively contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of health and safety procedures for projects, activities, and specialist equipment in order to maintain a set of robust processes for maintaining of bespoke health and safety requirements related to the Centre’s activities, in line with the existing Health & Safety Officer
Lead on delegated wider resource and management activities linked to the estate management of the Centre’s activities and equipment
Assist with the development of new business models, costing and strategies for wider Centre activities and roles linked with the various taught academic degree departments within the Faculty.  Namely assisting in the development of a linked automotive engineering degree
Assume delegated day to day line management of the Centre’s engineering and technical staff
Represent the Centre internally at management meetings when required
 
Key skills; 
 
Minimum of 7-8 years’ experience in the technical delivery of commercial tests and development of electric vehicle battery or HV drive systems
Minimum of 7-8 years’ experience with the test / development of new energy storage products, or hybrid / electrical drive systems, including electrical, mechanical development
Experienced practical test engineer with electronic, electrical, mechanical and software skills & abilities
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities to present complex technical reports
Demonstrable ability to present to and communicate with a broad range of stakeholders
Experience of Team Leadership and test project management
Experience of managing relationships with multiple stakeholders, with a proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
Significant knowledge of low carbon automotive technologies as related to the test and development environment
Specialist knowledge of energy storage technologies, including lithium batteries, their integration in high power applications and associated battery management systems
Developed understanding / knowledge of the development of energy storage as it relates to automotive products and the testing requirements for introduction into products
Degree level / Higher level degree qualification in engineering / automotive related discipline and / or energy systems engineering
 
Desirable; 
 
Knowledge / experience of some of the Automotive SW applications (Vector, ETAS, LabVIEW, MatLab etc)
Technical and practical knowledge & experience of CANbus scripts and database use & development
Previous experience of managing external companies and associated partners for cross sector programmes of work
Experience of working within a Health, Safety & Wellbeing framework relevant to the remit of the role
