Job Description

The Role
As the Principal Engineer – Vehicle Development you will define and maintain the vehicle attribute targets, based on a thorough understanding of the operational and strategic requirements of the Volta Trucks customer base together with industry best practice and benchmark data for the specific product sector. You will be a key contributor to the concept, design, development and signoff across the full range of vehicle functions to ensure that the voice of the customer is always heard throughout each project. The scope of this will include vehicle safety (including visibility), loading and operational cases, drivability, thermal comfort, perceived quality and solidity, durability, environmental impact, occupant comfort, stability and braking, performance, economy, audio and communications, NVH

Main Responsibilities
• Define and record vehicle attribute targets and detailed requirements specifications 
• Carry out any necessary benchmarking in support of whole vehicle target setting
• Create and maintain the Design Verification Plan for the project at major system and vehicle level, also overseeing the component plans across the delivery functions
• Identify suitable standards and procedures from public sources, create new standards where required for internal use
• Plan, implement and control the vehicle development programme to ensure adequate assessment and refinement of vehicle attributes
• Oversee the maturity of vehicle testing to ensure timely certification

Qualifications and Experience
• 5 years+ vehicle development/attribute engineering with specific and relevant experience in the Large Goods Vehicle sector
• University degree in a relevant engineering topic (or equivalent)
• Good understanding of vehicle attribute targets, vehicle design aspects and development programme
• Strong communication skills and fluent in English
• Strong team and interpersonal skills, cross cultural understanding, organizing and coordinating ability
• Ability to drive and complete tasks independently, task oriented and high attention to detail
• Ability to work in a complex and ambiguous environment
• Positive and passionate, good team player
