A great opportunity to help set up a brand new Hybrid Test Lab and join an ever expanding area of the business. Recently this area has received over £30m worth of investment and can now boast state of the art facilities. This position will be the go to, for all Technical related matters within Hybird Powertrain Testing. It is also expected that you'll support the recruitment of this department.
Roles and responsibilities
• Maintain all H&S and quality procedures and ensure they are adhered to
• Manage & support a small team of engineers to deliver excellent customer service on a daily basis
• Engineering responsibility for a new powertrain facility
• Provide the customer with a professional, service centred technical interface
• Provide understanding of customer processes that will be followed during the project delivery
• Monitor the implementation of latest Functional processes and procedures throughout the project
• Co-ordinate activities with the technical operations and facilities support teams to achieve project deliverables
• Co-ordinate and attend customer Project Status meetings.
• Manage & run customer vehicle or powertrain programs with high levels of efficiency
• Identify faults with units under test and lead effective solutions
• Processing and validation of test data to a high standard
• Analyse and present test results to customers and peers
• Generate test report templates tailored to specific customer requirements
• Provide technical support to engineers, customers and business development
• Track project efficiency, maintain project related invoicing and track against financial forecasts
• Deliver development projects for a variety of customers
• Develop initiatives to reduce waste, optimise efficiency and reduce costs
• Develop best working practises and provide training to others
Person Specification
Qualifications
• Appropriate Engineering Degree
Experience
• 5 years minimum experience in automotive powertrain (engines, transmissions, etc.)
• Significant experience in technically leading powertrain development projects
• Experience with powertrain/vehicle development testing techniques and methodology
• Strong understanding of mechanical powertrain fundamentals
• Proven exposure to state of the art engine, transmission and powertrain control strategies.
Skills of Interest
• Excellent knowledge of powertrain systems and sub-systems
• Good knowledge of Bosch EMSs (others would be useful)?
• Good knowledge of working with powertrain management systems
• A strong background in the use of Engine/Vehicle test cell equipment including emissions measurement, combustion analysis and calibration tools
• Strong understanding of transmissions
• Understanding of vehicle integration architecture
• Experienced in using Modelling & Simulation packages in Hardware in the Loop (HIL) test rigs
• Conversant with CAN protocols and CANbus networks
• Experienced using dSPCACE Control Desk software
• Creation and management of dbc files
• Experienced user of analytical software tools to handle large volumes of data
• Ability to understand, interpret and evaluate numerical data
• Knowledge of Modelling and Simulation techniques
• Knowledge of coding/programming languages
• Flexibility to undertake additional tasks to meet business requirements
• Highly motivated, keen to learn and share knowledge
