If you are looking for an average bog-standard opportunity then please do not apply as this position is at the other end of the scale. We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to work on some of the latest cutting edge technology and flex their intellectual muscles.
This company is notoriously difficult to get into and many people have tried. They only hire the best engineers and as a result you’ll find yourself working in a stimulating environment, being challenged to come up with novel solutions to real engineering problems.
If you’re searching for a varied and fulfilling job then please read on.
This is a small team of dedicated professionals and as such you will be exposed to many areas of mechanical design and development. You’ll be using design tools like Solidworks & Ansys - training will be provided if you use a different 3D package.
This role is so much more than just design, as on a daily basis you will perform hand calculations to prove your designs, as well as running Ansys to work out stress and thermal expansion analysis.
When you are not doing this, you might be involved with generating documentation for manufacturing by actually talking to the production engineers on the shop floor and understanding what works for them. You’ll oversee the tests, liaise with suppliers and customers and be given the chance to take ownership for your designs.
Engineers who like to work alone probably won’t fit in. We need a Mechanical Engineer who enjoys working with others and has an open and positive communication style.
The Technical Bit.
To apply for this position you will need to show that you have a technical understanding of things like oil and cooling systems, pipework, bolted joints, flanges, brackets as a lot of your work will involve designing packaging and integration work.
You’ll also need a 2:1 or 1st class Degree. Postgraduate qualifications are also desirable.
We are not looking for fresh graduates; you will need to be able to demonstrate relevant industry experience.
Experience and knowledge of engines, turbomachinery, generators, electric machines, power electronics and technology similar to this is very much of interest, as is a practical knowledge of exotic materials such as Inconel and the manufacturing processes needed to cast, machine and fabricate these.
This position would suit mechanical design engineers who are interested in working with technically challenging applications, where design, analysis and problem solving are the order of the day.
