Job Description
This role is all about effective management, strategic vision and direction. As a business this client is looking for an Operations Director to ensure the 5 year strategic objectives for the business are met whilst overseeing manufacturing in all its facets. This will encompass championing world leading continuous improvements in manufacturing methods and processes to deliver on time, reduce build costs whilst improving product quality and reliability standards.
You’ll be an active member of the Executive team of Directors supporting the Managing Director with the strategic development & direction of the Company. This will mean attending regular Board and Executive meetings to prepare & present regular Board reports.
As Operations Director you will be responsible for these areas:
• Lead the manufacturing team
• Overseeing the production
• Direct, develop and motivate the team
• Work closely with Finance
• Ownership of the Manufacturing budget
• Organise the repair & routine Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) of production equipment
• To propose Capital Expenditure for new machinery
• Responsible for the supply and logistics processes
• Efficiently manage resource levels as well as performance management
• Working closely with the Head of Quality supporting initiatives to drive high standards of quality
• Ensure the MPS system and manufacturing input in the ERP system
• Overseeing all production processes
• Working closely with the Health & Safety Manager
• Attend weekly management meetings reporting on schedules, production status and issues.
• Oversee procurement improvements
• Involvement in pre-production planning stage with Engineering
• Work with Subsidiary companies to integrate operations and advise
• Development and introduction of manufacturing improvements such as lean manufacturing initiatives and the appropriate use of robotics or automation
In this role you’ll be responsible for the Purchasing Manager, Master Production Scheduler, Manufacturing Manager, Stores Supervisor, Machine Shop Manager & Facilities Supervisor.

Qualifications
• Minimum degree/ HND qualified relevant Engineering discipline (desirable) or equivalent
• Membership of Chartered Institute of Engineering (desirable)
Knowledge
• Understanding of electronic, mechanical process or production engineering
• Project management skills
• Good business, commercial, technical and financial knowledge
• Excellent IT literacy and ability to manage manufacturing & ERP systems
• Operational knowledge of ISO standards, criteria and processes (desirable)
• Up to date knowledge and application of H&S
• Conversant with statutory, regulatory and legislative obligations relevant to business operations worldwide
• Experience of commercial Electronic Engineering manufacturing operations
Experience
• Demonstrable senior management experience in a similar sized organisation (300)
• Proven credibility as senior Manager/Director
• Demonstrable capability to influence senior leadership and management
• Successful track record of liaison and negotiation with stakeholders to ensure good commercial outcomes
• Proven multi-disciplinary Project Team coordination and leadership
• Successful team management capabilities
• Experience of logistics, procurement and supply
• Experience of Lean manufacturing, modern technology
• Experience of working in environment with high quality standards and regulations (E.g. Oil & Gas desirable)
