Job Description


Job Purpose: To manage a small team of Application & Integration Application Engineers to support you in the delivery of electrical & electronics product content across multiple vehicle programmes, for a defined vehicle platform.

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:

Business Planning:
With support from your team, define the Electrical & Electronics function’s change content in response to Strategic Evaluation Letters. Work with Product Cost Estimating to set commodity financial targets based on defined archetypes & strategic suppliers. Support Programme Manager and Concept Team to balance performance and cost targets. Define programme’s Electrical & Electronics engineering resource requirements (internal and external).

•Work with the Concept Team and Electrical Commodity groups to ensure archetypes are applied, and that function commodities integrate effectively, to achieve overall vehicle targets & commodity compatibility.
•Manage the use of external engineering partners as required to deliver commodities in line with the functional archetypes and engineering guidelines, with the support of Electrical & Electronics Platform Engineers to ensure system level targets are achieved.
•Ensure platform commodities are delivered (by platform engineers) to achieve the programme’s cascaded system level targets.
•Ensure the overall EE requirement/specification is created, system reviews performed and overall validation is performed. Some of this will be assisting and working with other system engineers ensuring the whole EE architecture/ Feature Delivery is on track and signed off.

•Support a small team of Application & Integration Application Engineers (who will be co-located in a vehicle programme team) to collaborate with cross-functional programme team including application engineers from other Functions, Vehicle Performance & Concept, Purchasing, Manufacturing & Quality to deliver the programme QCWFT (quality, cost, weight, function and timing) requirements.
•Manage and oversee project status reporting through health chart reviews and gateway status/material preparation, and be the first point of escalation for any issues.
•Oversee the planning of Electrical & Electronics function programme delivery to achieve the VPP’s for your vehicle platform. Ensure that platform engineers & external engineering partners achieve the plan (with their component suppliers), creating & managing recovery plans as required.
•Facilitate the communication between Application & Platform, inc. external resources
•Monitor internal & external resource utilisation to identify potential efficiency improvements for the next programme.
•Manage the tracking and delivery of software and coding for electrical & non-electrical commodities for all builds.

•Oversees the creation of the Function’s virtual & physical DV plan for each vehicle programme.
•Monitors the concern status, by vehicle programme, to ensure all concerns are robustly resolved.
•Your team are the first point of contact for build issues and fault finding/issue resolution on build & test. Includes resolving concerns & driving concern resolution.
•Tracks FESO documentation for programme commodities, throughout the vehicle programme.
•Guarantees the functional & technical delivery of all project on the vehicle platform.

Personnel Management:
•Responsible for continuously challenging and improving the performance of your team, including the formal appraisal process.
•Support the recruitment of team members, as required
•Carryout regular 1:1’s with each team member
•Approve timesheets and responsibility for attendance management
•Plan your team’s resource requirements to cover all vehicle programmes across the platform
Qualification & Experience:
•Engineering Degree or equivalent.
•Preferably Chartered Engineering status or equivalent.
•Proven record of delivering Electrical or Electronics commodities, including quality, cost, function, weight and timing.
•Experience of people management and leading cross functional teams.
•Extensive knowledge of automotive product development systems and project management e.g. releasing, concerns, containments, gateways and sign off documentation, from concept to launch completion.
•Prince 2 training is advantageous.
•Proven management of outsourced projects, and extensive supplier management experience.
•Excellent financial management skills.
•Experience of more than one of the following commodities is preferred:  infotainment, audio, cluster & displays, tracker & e-call, antennas, switchgear, lighting, camera & PDCs, body electronics, power management, EDS.
•Experience of System Integration Engineering and software delivery.
•Excellent technical engineering background and a comprehensive knowledge of using calculation and analysis to drive design.
•Excellent knowledge of automotive quality tools and processes.
•Extensive knowledge of the manufacturing processes to create the components or systems.
•Excellent communication and influencing skills at all levels.
•Confident presenter.
•Experienced Microsoft Office user.
•Must be able to manage large workloads in a high-pressure environment and prioritise accordingly.
•Must be able to project manage and work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
