Lead Electronics Engineer
Our Automotive client in Leeds is looking for a Lead Electronics Engineer to join their electronics engineering department to lead a team of 2 engineers taking responsibility for new projects.
This role will see you working as part of an exciting, creative product development team alongside in-house designers and mechanical engineers; leading your team to design and manufacture electronics products for the automotive market.
This is a key role for the department, so you will need to be organised, structured, and comfortable presenting your work to all stakeholders within the business. You must be able to work to project timescales and investigate, research, design and implement new designs for vehicle warning products and other products as required. You’ll have a positive outlook with a can-do attitude, someone that enjoys a challenge!
You will be confident in your area of expertise and working both as part of a team or independently. You’ll have a meticulous eye for detail and be able to implement your designs for manufacture to ensure parts are produced right first time and live up to the companies reputation for quality.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
? Functional leadership of the Electronics Engineering team, including goal setting and the creation of personal development plans
? Mentor electronics engineering competency within the team through regular observation and feedback
? Hold PDR, CDR, FDR and interim design reviews where necessary
? Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to support initiatives such as cost reduction, ease of build, product obsolescence and warranty claims
? Support Product Management in feasibility assessments
? Responsible for checking and validating Electronics Engineers design and drawings where required
? Work alongside Project Management and project stakeholders to ensure successful on time delivery of electronics designs
? Lead investigations into product non-conformance issues; implement product and process improvement/cost reduction initiatives via the companies Non-Conformance/Corrective Action and Engineering Change processes.
? Ensure designs are compliant with the relevant standards and legislation.
? Provide the necessary files/documentation for SolidWorks integration and the BOM/Part numbers with full AVL data
? Ownership of the Electronics Laboratory area and the equipment
? Assist with the creation of test and assembly instructions
? Assist with moving product from design to manufacture
? Perform other duties as and when necessary to support the businesses mission statement and to achieve company goals
? Degree qualified, or equivalent, in an electronic engineering discipline with at least 7 years relevant experience
? Excellent analogue and digital circuit design theory ideally with reference to LED lighting technology and SMPS circuit design
? Proven ability to design, prototype and fault-find using SMD
? Strong schematic design and PCB layout skills using Altium
? Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
? Excellent PC skill levels using MS Office (Word and Excel)
? Ability to partition systems to breakdown design level
? A positive ‘can-do’ attitude towards addressing assigned issues and projects
? Ability to work well as a team, or individually
? Reliable, well organised with a focus on delivering high quality outputs
? Delivering results under pressure to strict deadlines
? Experience of programming for 8-bit micro-controllers
? Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN / LIN / FlexRay / Automotive Ethernet
? Experience of fault-finding investigations and root cause analysis
? Design for manufacture of large volume products
? Automotive industry experience
