Lead Electronics Engineer
Circa 9 months FTC - Until end of October 2020
Paying either a competitive market pro rata annual salary or Ltd company day rate
Our client is a manufacturer of commercial and emergency vehicle warning and safety products and they are seeking a Lead Electronics Engineer to join their Automotive business.
This is a hands on "doer" design role doing Altium PCB design, Analogue & Digital design, Control unit design, Application interfacing products design and would suit a Senior Engineer who could help encourage / mentor the other 2 Engineers to think outside the box and broaden their abilities.
Based in Leeds, the Lead Electronics Engineer will take technical ownership of the electronics specification, design, implementation and test activities within the product life cycle, and lead on electronics design reviews.
You will have functional leadership of the Electronics Engineering team, providing personal development plans, goal setting, and mentoring the team through regular observation and feedback. You will endeavour to lead by example pushing your team to achieve excellence and supporting them when needed.

Main Duties / Responsibilities
? Functional leadership of the Electronics Engineering team, including goal setting and the creation of personal development plans
? Mentor Electronics Engineering competency within the team through regular observation and feedback
? Technical ownership of the Electronics specification, design, implementation and test activities within the product lifecycle
? Lead Electronics Design Reviews
? Approve Electronics technical documentation
? Support Product Management with technical feasibility assessments and developing the product vision
? Maintain and develop Electronics design processes and procedures, identifying methods for improving efficiency within Engineering
? Work alongside Project Management and project stakeholders to ensure successful on time delivery of electronics activities
? Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) to support initiatives such as cost reduction, ease of build, product obsolescence and warranty claims
? Lead investigations into product non-conformance issues; implement product and process improvement/cost reduction initiatives via Non-Conformance/Corrective Action and Engineering Change processes.
? Ensure designs are compliant with the relevant standards and legislation
? Ownership of the Electronics Laboratory area and the equipment
? Assist with the creation of test and assembly instructions
? Degree qualified, or equivalent, in an Electronics Engineering discipline with at least 7 years relevant experience
? Automotive industry experience
? Excellent analogue and digital circuit design theory ideally with reference to LED lighting technology and SMPS circuit design
? Proven ability to design, prototype and fault-find using SMD
? Strong schematic design and PCB layout skills using Altium
? Experience of fault-finding and root cause analysis
? Experience of programming for micro-controllers
? A positive, helpful and flexible attitude to work, business and colleagues
? Excellent PC skill levels using MS Office (Word and Excel)
? Ability to work well as a team, or individually
? Reliable, well organised with a focus on delivering high quality outputs
? Delivering results under pressure to strict deadlines
? Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
? Knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN / LIN / FlexRay / Automotive Ethernet
? Design for manufacture of large volume products
? Multiple languages to a level of fluency
