Our innovative technology client in Wiltshire is seeking a Lead Acoustics Engineer to join the research side of their business.

As part of the Motors Research team, the Lead Acoustic Engineer will be part of a multi-discipline engineering and design team responsible for powering the core technology at the heart of next generation products. The candidate will be responsible for the design and execution of extensive experimental campaigns, identification and communication of key factors affecting motor and compressor noise, development of clear noise mitigation strategies and integration of these within the design and development cycle. The Lead Acoustics Engineer will be expected to take a proactive approach in identifying and evaluating new technology opportunities for noise control, improving experimental capabilities or enhancing insight through advanced simulation approaches.

Key responsibilities:
Lead the acoustic design and optimization of both the concept phase and the detailed stages of new motor-compressor systems development with particular focus on achieving optimal low noise operation of the integrated system.
Design and conduct experiments to validate analytic work and prove system performance.
Develop new noise mitigation solutions, technologies and understanding in motor and compressor acoustics, utilising a variety of experimental and numerical techniques in design-build-test-learn cycles.
Liaise with development teams to ensure effective transfer of technology into future product range.
Analyse test results, summarise findings and communicate to other members of the team including senior managers and directors.
Champion acoustics with design and mechanical teams, particularly in low noise design techniques for motors and compressors.

Qualifications, skills and behaviours:
A good first degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or equivalent. Industry experience in acoustics, aerodynamics, wave physics or signal processing.
Experience in the design or characterisation of turbo machinery components is desirable.
Expertise with experimental design and measurement, particularly with regard to acoustics and flow measurement, demonstrating the ability to design, conduct and lead a complete well thought out experimental investigation.
Programming and scientific computing experience, e.g. MATLAB, Python, Mathematica.
Experience of finite element analysis packages (e.g. COMSOL, Ansys) desirable but not essential.
A highly driven individual who strives for accurate results in every aspect of your work.
