Engineering Manager – Body
Midlands - Perm - £80k - £90k + Car + Bonus + Benefits
The role is to lead the Body Engineering team, responsible for the delivery of vehicle body designs for existing and new vehicles. Specifically, the Body Engineering function encompasses both Structure and Exterior Trim & Closures. The Clients products make use of hot cure bonded aluminium construction for the vehicle body structure with cold cure bonded composite panels for the vehicle exterior trim.
•Lead the team responsible for the design, development and validation of the vehicle body systems in compliance with automotive industry standards and best practice for both existing and new products.
•Provide technical and subject matter leadership for Body Engineering within the Engineering team and in support of the wider business.
•Overall responsibility for the successful delivery including engineering release, cost, timing, mass and quality.
•Provide Leadership to a matrix team of multi-disciplined Structures, Exterior and Closures engineers with a focus on achieving project milestones within target timeframe.
•Provide a primary interface to the stakeholder teams for all body engineering issues (product development functions, manufacturing, procurement, SQA, etc).
•Manage project resources (budget, headcount, etc) to achieve committed deliverables.
•Demonstrable record of achievement in the engineering of body systems for passenger cars and / or light commercial vans.
•Particular emphasis is placed on possession of good knowledge and experience of:
oBonded aluminium body structure engineering in order to meet prevailing legislative and best practice requirements for crash performance, NVH, mass and product cost.
oLayered build design and engineering approach for overall body construction (ideally aluminium structure with plastic composite exterior elements).
•Experienced in operating in a Senior engineering role, taking the lead for engineering activities and co-ordinating a wider team of engineers to produce fully integrated solutions.
•Excellent communication and networking skills to enable you to build strong links within Engineering and the wider organisation.
•Customer-oriented approach towards automotive development with experience in a mass production automotive engineering environment.
•A resilient character able to work with minimal supervision, with a strong desire to deliver against targets under pressure.
•Knowledgeable and experienced practitioner of automotive business processes for product engineering, quality and financial control as appropriate to the engineering of vehicle body.
•Must demonstrate both academic and industry achievement appropriate for this role.
