A chance to join a successful high-tech, manufacturing business working within the sensors and instrumentation industry. We are now looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer to oversee Root Cause Analysis & Test Development within the Quality department.
Reporting to the Quality Manager, you’ll be responsible for providing technical leadership to the service centre, technical support for in-house test, as well as design & development of new products and processes. This position is all about improving customer satisfaction by providing Failure Analysis Reports on customer returns.
Main Responsibilities
• Work with the Service team to determine direct cause of failure on customer returns
• Produce Failure Analysis Reports for customers, using 8D to determine root cause
• Support the development of relevant metrics to monitor field failure / delivered quality
• Provide analysis of field failure data
• Investigate and address the causes of production down-time due to test failure, In-House and at subcontractors
• Lead cross-functional efforts to identify and address root causes of recurring issues
• Support New Product Development through participation in design reviews with focus on Design for Test, Reliability and Serviceability
• Support new product / process validation
• Provide technical support to IQC (Incoming Quality Control), Production Test and contract electronics manufacturers
• Maintain, repair and improve existing test fixtures
• Design and develop new test solutions
• Improve existing and develop new process documentation and Work Instructions
• Support customer audits and quality reviews
Person Specification
• Working knowledge and fault-finding experience of:
• Micro-controller-based systems
• Digital systems (ADC/DAC, FPGA, I2C, SPI, JTAG, RS485)
• Analogue systems (audio / ultrasonic / low noise design)
• Test development experience including Test jig design
• Able to carry out investigations and produce reports
Desirable:
• LabVIEW / National Instruments / Arduino
• PCB CAD (Altium experience would be an advantage)
• IPC-610 certified
• SMT rework – fine pitch QFP, micro BGA
• HALT / HASS
• Experience of an effective Continuous Improvement culture
• Structured problem solving using Automotive 8D or A3
• Working knowledge of APQP core tools, especially FMEA
• Knowledge and experience of modern high-volume surface mount electronics manufacturing processes
• Working knowledge of business systems – ERP, PLM, Power BI
