Digital Vehicle Engineer

Digital Vehicle Engineer

Midlands - Contract - £140 - £170 per day

Reporting to both Vehicle Integration & Digital Vehicle and working closely with Engineers across the whole R&D team.

Background

We believe that maximising the use of virtual tools is the most cost-effective and efficient route to ensuring accurate and robust design data. Our aim is to interrogate the designs thoroughly in the virtual world to:

1. Ensure designs are compatible, complete, robust and optimal prior to committing to prototype & production tooling

2. Minimise late design change

3. Ensure manufacturing, attribute and quality targets are met by design

Vehicle Integration & Digital Vehicle work together using a process of successive builds and analysis loops on full Vehicle Engineering Data (CAD, Non-Geometric Data and other Models) as a technique for achieving the above.

Role Description / Key Objectives and Responsibilities:

  • Conducting virtual checks to:
  • Assess the CAD Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA) suitability
  • Logging and managing the resolution of issues in a timely manner to support programme milestones
  • Overall, the Engineer will form a close working relationship with multiple Functional Groups to take a shared ownership of meeting prototype and production release objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • 2-3 years relevant automotive experience
  • Direct experience of complex commodity build/analysis activities – ideally full vehicle
  • Knowledge of different types of Engineering Data (CAD, NGD & Models)
  • Experience of Digital / Virtual series (ideally in an OEM environment)
  • Understanding of virtual tools – CAD, PLM, Digital Mock-Up, Clash Detection etc
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Preferred Technical Skills:

  • •PDM – Siemens Teamcenter (or similar)
  • •CAD – Catia (or similar)
  • •Automotive or engineering background
