Chief Engineer Closures

Location: Coventry / Norfolk
Permanent  

Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):
To manage and lead the Closures Engineering group within the Sports Cars business unit. Responsible for the technical delivery of all Closures Systems Engineering to programmes and external services to meet programme cost, time and quality requirements.
 
Engineering Delivery
•Accountability for Exterior Trim Systems Gateway delivery to programs
•Departmental engineering leadership to deliver vehicle programs on time, cost and to required quality
•Support to concept design phase ensuring feasible styling to achieve high quality Exterior Trim Systems
•Release responsible for all Exterior Trim systems and components on time and within specifications
•Leadership of manufacturing and cost engineering assessment for Exterior Trim parts
•Ensure robust design  validation through simulation and testing

Technical Leadership
•Responsible for Technical Excellence of the department ensuring skills, capability and processes are in place
•Technology development and robust delivery to programs and services
•Research, new technologies and innovation strategy
•Contribute to, write and approve the vehicle technical specifications, and the component technical specifications
•Ensure the technical operation of Exterior Trim design work within the overall program requirements

Department Budget
•Managing annual budge and monitoring to ensure budgets are met
•Recruitment and manning vs. program and services needs
•Investment planning for equipment and facilities
•Responsible for management of the function group's overhead budget, as appropriate
•Staff recruitment and management as required to achieve the programs to time and budget

Personnel Performance
•Core competencies; skills, training and development
•Sets and monitors department performance targets

Processes and Standard
•Manage departmental engineering standards. Custodian of component/system best practice and performance delivery. Continuous development of processes and tools to meet world class standards

Business Network
•Develop collaborative network with other mirror departments to ensure efficient design methods and maximum part commonality is applied
•Able to communicate at all levels in the business from executive to shop floor
•Ensure professional relationships with our suppliers, including selection and management
 
Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)
•Proven Track record of senior leadership within automotive engineering from OEM to Tier 1
•Demonstrable experience in Exterior Trim development of delivering components from concept to production
•Understanding of OEM Vehicle New Product Introduction NPI processes
•Evidence of automotive project delivery from Concept to Launch
•Results driven, decisive and analytical with a global perspective
•Strong engineering base with multi-discipline experience
•Willingness to travel and able to work to tight deadlines and ensure delivery is to required standard.
