Job Description

I am currently seeking an Advanced Cell Engineer to join our Automotive client. This role is based in the highly successful Powertrain group within the Electric Vehicle Engineering Team. The key objective of the role is Cell engineering for the electric vehicle battery pack, applicants must have significant experience in electric vehicle battery cells.
 
Key duties; 
 
Assess off-the-shelf cells from various existing suppliers
Plan and perform cell characterisation, durability and safety tests
Ensure cells meet regulatory and company requirements for safety
Create cell electrical and thermal models to simulate vehicle performance
Estimate cell degradation (capacity loss and DCIR increase)
Support supplier production quality
Solve engineering and field issues
Benchmark cells used for other EVs
Research new technologies and investigate ways of incorporating the technologies into future products
 
As an advanced engineer, the successful applicant will be expected to:
 
Create suitable documentation
Mange supplier communication
Take technical responsibility for the cells of N526 project 
Demonstrate cells are robust, cost effective and fit for purpose for a high volume manufacture environment, through detailed laboratory testing, simulation and analysis
 
Qualifications / skills; 
 
Education and experience:
 
Minimum BEng/MEng degree in Electrochemical Engineering or other relevant discipline with a demonstrable level of industrial experience in a relevant industry.
 
Minimum technical knowledge:
 
Lithium-ion battery fundamentals
Electric vehicle system fundamentals
BMS function understanding
Battery testing equipment
Simulation tools
Quality control for battery cells 
 
Desirable technical knowledge:
 
Knowledge and experience of automotive battery development
Excellent general knowledge of electric vehicle total simulation
Experience in electric vehicle power electronics
Design of power electronics for high voltage systems including good knowledge of safety standards
Robust design including FMEA techniques
Battery charging using wired and wireless power transfer
Experience in Field Quality Assurance for mass production electric vehicle in global market
