Body CAD Engineer
A leading automotive design consultancy based in Surrey is currently looking to recruit a Body CAD Engineer on a contract basis.
Primary responsibility will be to assist in the design and engineering work on a customer project, overseeing the project vehicle design from body structure and closures perspective.
You would therefore be part of a structured team which is responsible for modelling (in Catia and other tools) full vehicle structures; closures and sub-systems to provide innovative technical solutions to meet project needs. Design Engineers are typically dedicated to a single project, although at busy times this may increase.
The key elements of the Design function are to ensure the compatibility of design solutions against the vehicle specification, integrate hardware with styled themes and to work with the Engineering division of the company to ensure the design output is aligned with structural parameters. In addition to design tooling, jigs, fixtures and support vehicle build.
The candidate is expected to liaise with the development, project management, commercial, prototype and production manufacturing teams, technical partners and suppliers to ensure the designs meet the requirements for timing, performance, manufacturability and cost.
Qualifications and experience:
It is anticipated that you will be an automotive design engineer with around five years experience in automotive design, be ideally educated to degree level in Mechanical Engineering (or similar) and have demonstrable experience of working with body design teams.
Catia V5 experience is preferred in fulfilling this role.
In addition we would expect you to have experience in the following areas.
- An understanding of whole vehicle design.
- Experience with external suppliers and consultants to ensure that engineering, cost and timing targets are met.
- Experience of full product life-cycle activities including cost & weight and supplier management.
A broad-based practical design experience is essential as well as a sound knowledge of structures, systems and dynamics of vehicles. You should also be a self-motivated individual capable of working under your own initiative as well as meeting tight deadlines leading a highly motivated design team. The role involves a great deal of interaction with our technical partners and suppliers so it is expected that the candidate will be happy to travel both in the UK and Overseas
