Automotive Technology & Innovation Consultant

 
My client based in London is one of the largest and most influential trade associations in the UK. Its resources, reputation and unrivalled automotive data place it at the heart of the UK automotive industry. 
 
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technology & Innovation Manager to support and deliver all technology and innovation team activities, particularly those in developing the market for ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), advancing future mobility innovation, and promoting innovation and investment in R&D across the UK automotive supply chain. 
 
PURPOSE OF ROLE
 
To support and deliver all technology and innovation team activities, particularly those in developing the market for ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAVs), advancing future mobility innovation, and promoting innovation and investment in R&D across the UK automotive supply chain. 
 
To provide impactful expertise on all aspects of the technology & innovation agenda (policy, funding, commercial and R&D developments) at UK, EU and international level to members and colleagues.
 
To formulate and represent members’ position on all technology and innovation issues to government and other stakeholders on behalf of the business.
 
To run member group meetings and manage and support engagement with members, adjacent industries, government, universities, funding bodies and other key stakeholders on the industry’s technology and innovation policy agenda.
 
To write and research position papers, policy briefs, presentations, intelligence updates, thought leadership publications and other reports or dossiers as required.
 
To support any other departmental & company projects or activities as required.
 
MAIN DUTIES
 
To provide the secretariat for and run the meetings of the Electric Vehicles Group, Innovation and Engineering Group, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles Forum, Working Group on Connected Cars and the Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles Task Force.
 
To manage relationships with key external stakeholders including government officials, quasi-government agencies, local authorities, R&D institutes, academic institutions, funding bodies and other membership bodies.
 
To formulate and represent members’ position on all technology and innovation issues to government and other stakeholders on behalf of the business.
 
To effectively communicate automotive technology and innovation developments and handle enquiries from internal audiences, members, government, and other stakeholders.
 
To write policy briefs, intelligence updates, position papers, thought leadership publications, minutes of member group meetings and other reports or dossiers.
 
To perform industry and market monitoring, as well as conduct research and analysis on relevant industry and policy developments.
 
From time to time, manage ad-hoc short-term projects to deliver value to members.
 
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
 
Qualifications
A university degree, preferably in a technology, innovation, politics/international relations, social sciences or business-related subject.
Post-graduate qualifications are desirable.
 
Experience
Relevant professional experience in one or more of the following subject areas: ultra-low emission mobility, connected and autonomous vehicles, intelligent transport systems, design engineering, digital innovation, innovation policy.
Corresponding professional experience in one or more of the following functional areas: public policy, research, corporate/product strategy, engineering.
A demonstrable track record in developing influential relationships with government and cross-industry stakeholders is advantageous.
Familiarity with the automotive industry is desirable.
 
Competencies and skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in writing impactful policy briefs, position papers, reports as well as confident in giving presentations and public speaking
Excellent team player and project manager, able to lead or support projects and colleagues across the organisation with technology and innovation expertise. 
Proven research skills, with demonstrable capability in conducting various types of research, interpreting data and research findings, and producing insightful analyses.
Excellent organisational skills as evidenced by ability to organise and run meetings/events to project specifications and requirements.
