Senior Design Engineer

Job Role Overview:
The Senior Design Engineer position is a progression from Design Engineer, achieved through experience and demonstrated competence in advanced design and development tasks. This role requires a higher level of technical expertise, responsibility, and leadership in delivering vehicle components from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
- Lead the design and development of multiple vehicle components, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
- Consult with Specialists and Chief Engineers to ensure optimal technical solutions.
- Ensure all designs meet performance, cost, quality, and specification targets in line with the New Model Introduction Process (NMIP).
Project Management & Delivery:
- Manage design projects to meet time, cost, and quality objectives.
- Create and maintain detailed project plans, ensuring deliverables align with company KPIs.
- Identify and mitigate risks, escalating issues when necessary.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work effectively with internal and external stakeholders across the entire supply/value chain.
- Ensure clear and concise communication with cross-functional teams.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of processes, challenging existing methodologies where appropriate.
Technical Leadership & Expertise:
- Take on more technically demanding responsibilities compared to a Design Engineer.
- Apply in-depth engineering knowledge to solve complex design challenges.
- Ensure adherence to established design processes while seeking continuous improvements.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support projects and tasks as directed by management.
- Undertake any additional duties as required by the Package Lead Engineer, Area Lead Engineer, or Functional Lead.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Maths and English GCSE grade C or above.
- MEng or BEng in an Engineering related subject.
- Proven experience in automotive design engineering.
- Strong technical knowledge in mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to manage projects effectively, meeting strict deadlines and performance criteria.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to challenges.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team and across departments.
