Our high tech manufacturing client in Southampton are looking to expand their Engineering department by recruiting a Fibre Process Engineer.

Job Purpose:
Develop, monitor and control state-of-the-art specialty optical fibre fabrication processes and introduce novel, cutting-edge fibre designs for use in high-end industrial fibre laser systems supplied to premium brand customers in diverse global markets.

Key Areas of Responsibility: 
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Development of novel and enhanced specialty fibre fabrication processes and products, customized
for use in high performance industrial fibre lasers.
• Hands-on fabrication of R&D/prototype optical fibre & glass preforms utilizing our dedicated
optical fibre manufacturing facility and state-of-the-art machinery.
• Transfer of new fibre products and processes into production.
• Participation in business-critical fibre laser technology and NPI projects as fibre technology team
representative.
• Reporting and communicating on key projects to all levels within the organization including senior
management.
• Diagnosing machine and process faults and assisting with their resolution.
• Provision of training and documentation to manufacturing staff.
• Commissioning new fibre manufacturing equipment & instrumentation.

Required Experience:
Essential:
3+ yrs engineering experience in fibre optics, laser or photonics fields within industry or research organization.
Hands-on experience with optical fibre fabrication/characterisation.
Strong IT skills and data handling.

Preferable:
Direct experience of e.g. fibre draw process engineering, MCVD technology, Chelate deposition, glass working.
Application of polymer technology including optical fibre coating materials, UV curable polymers, 
material/chemical/optical characterization of polymers.
Data analysis / use of engineering statistics.

Qualifications:
• BSc or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or closely related
discipline. Relevant industrial experience will be considered in-lieu.
