Our high tech manufacturing client in Southampton are looking to expand their Engineering department by recruiting a Fibre Process Engineer.
Job Purpose: Develop, monitor and control state-of-the-art specialty optical fibre fabrication processes and introduce novel, cutting-edge fibre designs for use in high-end industrial fibre laser systems supplied to premium brand customers in diverse global markets.
Key Areas of Responsibility:&nbsp; Duties &amp; Responsibilities: &bull; Development of novel and enhanced specialty fibre fabrication processes and products, customized for use in high performance industrial fibre lasers. &bull; Hands-on fabrication of R&amp;D/prototype optical fibre &amp; glass preforms utilizing our dedicated optical fibre manufacturing facility and state-of-the-art machinery. &bull; Transfer of new fibre products and processes into production. &bull; Participation in business-critical fibre laser technology and NPI projects as fibre technology team representative. &bull; Reporting and communicating on key projects to all levels within the organization including senior management. &bull; Diagnosing machine and process faults and assisting with their resolution. &bull; Provision of training and documentation to manufacturing staff. &bull; Commissioning new fibre manufacturing equipment &amp; instrumentation.
Required Experience: Essential: 3+ yrs engineering experience in fibre optics, laser or photonics fields within industry or research organization. Hands-on experience with optical fibre fabrication/characterisation. Strong IT skills and data handling.
Preferable: Direct experience of e.g. fibre draw process engineering, MCVD technology, Chelate deposition, glass working. Application of polymer technology including optical fibre coating materials, UV curable polymers,&nbsp; material/chemical/optical characterization of polymers. Data analysis / use of engineering statistics.
Qualifications: &bull; BSc or higher in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics, Chemical Engineering or closely related discipline. Relevant industrial experience will be considered in-lieu.

Fibre Process Engineer 

Our high technology client are seeking a Fibre Component Development Scientist from an applied research background to join their Fibre Technology Team.
This role will drive the optical development of next generation fibre laser products through the full product development lifecycle, ensuring the requirements of all stakeholders are met, including other product development functions, product marketing and introduction into manufacturing. This role involves interaction across many functions within the company, and with significant influence on the successful launch of new products to market.
Key Areas of Responsibility: &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Development of innovative fibre laser components as part of the product development team in conjunction with technology development and manufacturing groups. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Development of prototype lab demonstrators and product evaluation in lasers&nbsp; &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Collaboration with other members of a multi-disciplinary project team &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Optical component design, development, and qualification, including but not limited to, High power signal combiners, Optical resonators and mode strippers and the associated build processes of splicing, tapering, potting/recoating, and packaging. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Design and execution of the verification and validation requirements for new product developments &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Identification and management of project risks &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Create and maintain project documentation, including transfer of new products, test requirements and processes, from development to manufacturing. &bull; &nbsp; &nbsp;Reporting of project progress to the project or management teams

Purpose The lead system engineer is an integral member of the Engineering Team. The lead system engineer will be overlooking a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the successful system of products into existing customer vehicles &amp; equipment. The lead system engineer will have a focus towards demonstrating the performance advantages to customers or potential customers and will drive a highly skilled team to deliver projects on time and within budget. They will support the CTO and VP of Engineering to deliver the businesses engineering requirements.
