Test Engineer - Leader

​Purpose of Role:

To manage the Validation department function in delivering strength, durability, performance, and characteristic testing of systems / components on test rigs and assembles to vehicles as part of product development process, and in providing the product support function for product field liability and service issues.

To work proactively within a culture of problem solving and continuous improvement

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Day to day management of the test department function and supervision of its personnel

• Define and manage the workflow through the whole department including deliverables and timing plans for all rig and vehicle testing activities to project requirements.

• Aid in the definition and control of test department and warranty budgets

• Leading role in the definition of product validation requirements and creation / maintenance of DVPs

• Lead the design, manufacture and set up of test rigs

• Plan and define instrumentation of vehicles and rig tests for test data collection

• Lead data collection exercises on test rigs and vehicles in the UK or abroad

• Define and deliver detailed analysis of acquired test data to support product development process

• Carry out fatigue prediction and performance analysis with rig & vehicle data

• Create/review/approve technical reports for tests carried out

• Evolve and improve procedures for rig and vehicle testing

• Provide technical guidance to sub-ordinates as necessary to progress vehicle and rig tests as well as workshop tasks and create/review/approve respective SOP´s

• Initiate, develop and maintain risk assessments for all test work

• Support internal Warranty process (data analysis, 8D)

• Primary interface with customers for all aspects of development testing and product liability

• Plan and execute preventive maintenance of all test equipment according to agreed schedule

• Ensure effective expediting of test equipment / components for repair and sub-contract operations from designated vendors, to ensure the test rigs and vehicle test equipment are seamlessly operable.

• Monitor test equipment inventory levels against agreed target levels to keep the test lab operable. Escalate issues and concerns to management

• Liaise with other personnel across the group as necessary to ensure the successful performance of all validation tasks.

• To support business initiatives to reduce and control costs generated by the validation function

• Ensure all associated documentation is complete, accurate and distributed to the appropriate recipients to ensure the efficient operation of the business. Ensure copies or originals are filed and accessible in a timely and orderly manner in Teamcenter

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Provide up-to-date analysis and reports illustrating business performance and forecasts to support business initiatives

• Identify, monitor & resolve process gaps

• Manage all aspects of Health & Safety within the test function

• Use problem solving tools & techniques to Investigate causes of deviation from process

• Carry out reasonable additional responsibilities as requested by the Company

• Organise failure mode analysis on parts from service

Performance Measures:

• Completion of test programmes to defined test plans & product development schedules

• Timely analysis of acquired data & completion of test reports

• Continuous evolution of test techniques to enhance efficiency and robustness

• Effective technical development of sub-ordinates within the test function

• Effective control on product liability costs to defined targets and timely closure of field issues

• Continuous adherence to health & safety policy/protocol to reduce risk to all within the test function

• Rig / actuator utilization
