You’ll develop circuit schematics, layout to design an efficient and cost-effective power electronics hardware using cutting edge technologies, prepare the test bench, support development and validate prototype/products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Design of electrified vehicle/industrial power electronics, such as drives, grid tied power generation including transistor selection, gate drive design, power supply design, measurements circuits, operating and protection strategies.
Be responsible for preparing appropriate test bench and test
Support in developing concept, proving key technologies and demonstrating the system functionality.
Specification of associated passive components, contactors, cables, connectors and fusing.
Design and test adequate thermal management solutions for power electronics systems.
Demonstrate designs are robust, cost effective and fit for purpose for a high-volume manufacture environment, through detailed laboratory testing, simulation and analysis
Participate in customer assessments, post-test inspection reviews, detailed failure analysis
Define and carry out all required bench development/validation testing to ensure achievement of all functional objectives and assure compliance to programme goals.
Ensure designs can comply with relevant EMC/EMI standards and modifying the design where needed to ensure this is the case.

Understanding of device characteristics and issues with switching behaviour in real circuits.
Knowledge of automotive standards and regulations for hybrid and full-electric vehicles and their components would be desirable. Or alternatively industrial standards for drives and grid tied invertors.
DVP&R and DFMEA creation and execution experience, with exposure to ISO26262.
Power electronics layout for best compromise between good switching performance, cooling, cost and size.
Schematic capture using Altium Designer.
Use of SPICE based simulation tools and System level modelling tools such as Matlab, Simulink or
Good quality engineering process understanding and appreciation
