Near Farnborough, Hampshire – Hybrid working available

Sonardyne has been writing the future of underwater technology for over 50 years. As a leading provider of underwater navigation, positioning, communication, imaging and monitoring technology, its innovations help transform what’s possible in offshore energy, maritime defence and ocean science. Sonardyne technology has enabled people to install wind farms, control squadrons of underwater drones and detect tsunami waves hundreds of miles offshore.

This is a really nice opportunity to work on an exciting new product within the Sonardyne range. You’ll be joining a small but growing team of software developers working on a disruptive technology project.

In time, you’ll be taking the lead on Web-based user interface development in an embedded environment. For this we are looking for experience in both front end (React) and back end (C++). This will initially involve maintenance and small development tasks but comes with genuine opportunity to take full ownership for all UI Design within the team. Since their products measure real-world properties, an interest in the acquisition of data from the physical world and the manipulation of that data is going to be needed. 80/90% is web development, the remainder will be interfacing to the back end.

Your responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing attractive and intuitive Web-based user interfaces

  • Developing backend services to action front-end requests

  • Understanding a full stack, from a Web UI front end down to bare metal

  • Communicating work and ideas/improvements to other Doppler group members

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:

Essential:

  • Experience with React

  • Some experience with C++

  • Understanding of Web-based protocols

  • Undergraduate degree in numerate discipline (Engineering, Maths, Physics, Computer Science - 2:1 or above)

Desirable:

  • Experience with embedded devices

  • Experience with Web-based security

  • Version control (git)

  • Task management (JIRA)

  • IDL-based messaging

  • Backend server configuration (Apache, nginx)

This position would suit either an experienced Developer, or a recent graduate, who has an interest UI Design for clean energy projects.
