​Our client are dedicated to the design, production and sale of powertrains for on and off-road vehicles, marine and power generation applications.

The company are now in a phase of growth and must now deliver a fast-paced program of build and development of their prototype truck-sized (9-15 litre) engines. Having relied on engineering service companies, they are now looking to build their own in-house capability, and are looking for an experienced engineering build & workshop manager, a role that requires a mix of engine build, workshop management, development/testbed set up skills, and management of other engine builders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Workshop scheduling & labour management of prototype engine builds, rework activities & teardowns

• Hands on and / or supervision of build of Prototype engines in accordance with build book & instructions from Technical Program Lead and supporting specialists

• Management of workshop, consumables reordering, calibration of tooling & definition of tooling required to complete prototype engine builds

• Implementation of a "No Faults Forward" approach

• Agreement of corrective actions for non-conforming or not fitting components;

• Ensuring build picks are complete & verified as fit for build in advance of critical path build requirements. Resolving issues with incorrect or absent parts from the pick or BoM

• Development of parts pick process to most efficiently deliver engine builds

• Organisation of new & used parts for internal & supplier review

Critical Attributes

• Multi-skilled engineering background acquired across different sectors, industries & roles. Truck, aerospace, automotive & R&D backgrounds will all be considered

• HND or Engineering Degree qualified individual with minimum 10 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering discipline

• Significant engine build experience over a range of engine sizes to include HDD Truck engine in the following areas:

o Methodical engine teardown, parts measurement, grading, and crack-off torque recordings

o R&D test engine build and documentation, test bed setup, instrumentation and commissioning

o Instrumentation of prototype engines for test

• Awareness of Health & Safety in the workplace (IOSH Managing Safely is desirable)

• Supervisory experience, with excellent planning and organisation skills. Ability to create and maintain achievable build schedules & highlight critical path components / build steps
